This very fine pre-Columbian clay mold originates from the Jama-Coaque culture on the northwestern coast of Ecuador. Such molds are rare, as they were used to produce numerous figures. This piece includes a pressed figure, demonstrating the end result of creating a figure with this mold.
Provenance: Private collection of Danish engineer Eigil Ettrup Petersen, acquired during his travels in South America in the 1950s.
Culture & Date: Jama-Coaque, 500 BC - 500 AD.
Condition: Very good.
