This beautiful and quite rare ancient terracotta camel dates back to the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907 AD). The figure features a few clear facial details with remnants of paint. The tradition of grave figures, which this piece belongs to, originates from the first Chinese emperors and was a symbol of status intended to protect the owner in the afterlife.
Provenance: Private collector, acquired in Beijing in the 1960s.
Culture & Date: Tang Dynasty, 618 - 907 AD.
Condition: Very good.
