A beautiful egyptian faience bead necklace. Almost all the different faience colours are seen in this fine piece. Orange stone in the middle of the necklace. It has been restrung.

The quality, and colour indicates that it is from around New Kingdom or the Late Period of Egyptian history. Necklaces made of uniform spherical beads are typically from the Middle Kingdom - hence this is not from Middle Kingdom.

These beads could very likely have been part of an ancient egyptian Menat, which had multiple strands of beads.
In its practical use it was utlized not as jewelry, but as a musical instrument. It would be held in the hand and shaken by a female priestess. Swinging the menat would produce a rattle-sound.
This however is merely a speculation, what do you think?

If you want to read more about ancient egyptian faience, I will highly recommend you the book "Gifts of the nile - Ancient Egyptian Faience" by Friedman.
