This lively and beautiful Jama-Coaque stamp, a pre-Inca artifact from Ecuador, was used to print designs onto the body. The motif depicts an anthropomorphic creature with intricate details, spitting fire or another substance from its mouth. The clay is light brown and not particularly porous, with traces of black paint on the front of the figure. This extremely rare piece is of very fine quality and comes from the esteemed Lyngby Collection.

Provenance: Former private collection, Copenhagen. Previously part of the Pre-Columbian Lyngby Art Collection (2007).

Culture & Date: Ecuador, Jama-Coaque, 0 - 500 AD.
