Indus Valley Terracotta from Mehrgarh or Harappa

This finely detailed mother figure, representing a divine being in the Indus Valley culture, showcases the intricate artistry of the period. The figure, handcrafted around 4,000 - 5,000 years ago, features fine sunken eyes, a small mouth, a headdress, and two necklaces—a somewhat indistinct one and a larger, more distinct necklace that hangs down over the chest. Despite the nose being broken off, the figure retains its elaborate detailing, typically created using a reed.

Provenance: Former private collection, acquired during the 1950s and 1960s.
