This beautifully decorated pottery stirrup vessel features intricate geometric patterns on its black body, characteristic of traditional Peruvian ceramics. Created by Chimú potters between 1000 and 1400 AD, the vessel reflects the technical refinement and aesthetic appeal developed by northern Peruvian artists since the 2nd millennium BC. Despite their appearance of mass production, these pieces required great effort and skill. The black color was achieved through a firing process with limited oxygen, resulting in a deep black hue from amorphous carbon.
